The book of Act’s is written for those who love God to show us the example and meaning of following Christ Jesus. Act 1:1...O Theophilus (meaning lover of God)...
In this regard the Apostles gave us an excellent example as to the meaning of being a lover of God in Christ Jesus.
Acts 6:1-2
Now during these days, while the disciples were multiplying, grumbling arose from the Hellenists against the Hebrews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily ministry [of food]. And the twelve, having summoned the multitude of the disciples, said, “It is not pleasing that we, having left-behind the word of God, should be serving tables. (DLNT)
The Bible often refers to faithless complaining as grumbling and warns us for in grumbling we declare that God is not sufficiently good. The apostles however came to set the standard of God’s perfect Word as they summoned the disciples, saying that “it is not pleasing that we, having left-behind the Word of God, should be serving tables”.
The Apostles emphasize that it is not appropriate for them to abandon God’s Word for serving tables. We must understand that the word for serving tables and for ministering is the same Greek word, and therefore the Apostles is directing the disciples to the fact that you have to choose whether you want to serve God’s Word in the presence of doubt or serve the reason for the doubt. The mentioned is based on the fact that the Apostles said that they, referring to the disciples who addressed the issue, could appoint Spirit filled people to do it, but as for them they will continue in prayer (emphasizing the fact that they will put their trust in God) and serving the Word of God as an answer to all issues of faith, for God is trustworthy to fulfil His promises and according to Acts 2:39 this promise is for all who believe and for their children.
Consider what Joshua said to the people in Joshua 24:14-15
“Now therefore fear Yahweh, and serve him in sincerity and in truth. Put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, in Egypt; and serve Yahweh. If it seems evil to you to serve Yahweh, choose this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.”
